Celery and onion soup with poached egg and sautéed mushrooms

I was going through some of my old pictures and found pictures of this delicious soup! Got the recipe from They draw & cook (which is an awesome site, btw). The recipe and illustration is done by Amrita Mohanty.

Here's how mine turned out :) Super yummy and made me feel all fancy

These are super super easy and quick to make (about 3 minutes!), and can be pretty healthy! Basically it's just banana and oatmeal mashed together for the dough. So easy! I've seen this all over the place so I'm super sorry that I can't give exact credit! So anyway, once you have the dough all ready, you can add whatever you like! Here's how I make mine:

Fast, easy and healthy cookies
Makes about 6 cookies
*It should be noted that these cookies are really filling. I like to half the recipe if I'm making a snack for one.

  • 1 cup of oatmeal
  • 1 banana
  • Cinnamon
  • vanilla extract
  • mini chocolate chips
  • raisons

Mash up the banana and combine with the oatmeal until well blended. Add the remaining of your ingredients and mix. Scoop the dough onto a place into small cookie shapes. These cookies won't raise at all, so be sure to space them out, and press down on them so they can cook fully. You basically just want to make them look like cooked cookies (circular and not too thick). Microwave for somewhere between 30 and 90 seconds, 60 seconds was perfect for my microwave.

Other add in:
  • Cranberries
  • chopped nuts
  • shredded coconut

Enjoy! :)

A perfect small lunch: Easy taco salad and a grilled cheese sandwich

Last weekend my boyfriend and I made taco pizza from scratch (even the dough)! It was super yummy and I was really impressed. Since I already had the ingredients, I figured that I ought to make a taco salad, so I did! The crunchiness of the lettuce and corn chips was nice with the softness of the grilled cheese :)

Easy taco salad

  • lettuce
  • tomato
  • corn chips
  • cheese
  • salsa
  • sour cream
  • (I think it would taste yummy with black beans too!)

First rinse and chop the lettuce and tomato then place in a bowl. Cut up cheese real small and add. And then crush corn chips on top. Next mix sour cream with salsa for the dressing and drizzle on top. Yum!

Flower Power Nails

Here's a tutorial for super cute flower nails! They're not super precise or detailed, but you can still get the gist :)

You will need
  •  base colour
  • pink
  • dark red
  • light green
  • dark green (I just used black to mix with my light green)
  • dotting tools or anything that'll make dot like shapes :)

First paint your nails with your base colour.
I did two coats of lavender

Then add pink splotches
Kind of like lumpy circles
Next outline the sides of the splotches and add a curved line in the in middle with dark red
Add green slightly pointed lines in light green, then on top do a smaller line in dark green for the leaves. Add a top coat and you're done!

Voilà! Aren't the just lovely? I've been meaning to try these out for so long but I've always been too intimidated. I'm really glad I tried them out, you should too!

Life Lately

Farmer's Markets are now open! Can't wait to explore the local goodness :D

I'm already in my third week of class and although it's just one course, I have it 4 times a week and it keeps me busy!

Little by little I've been adding details to make this apartment to feel more like a home :)
This sign is right above our comfy bed :3

I've started to reread Hunger Games!

As a little treat, my boyfriend and I  made chocolate bark!
I love making this because it's so easy, so versatile and so good! My favourite was sea salt and gummy bears and boyfriend added peanut butter to his

Another little treat was this jasmine blooming tea from my mom

I've also been applying for jobs, testing my creativity in making food with very few ingredients and putting off doing laundry for way too long. I hope everyone is having a good week so far! Take care everyone :)

Brown sugar baked fries
These are so good! My boyfriend and I have made them three times in the last week! Emma was right about wishing I had made more.

Cut Out and Keep
is this awesome craft site I just discovered, check it out!

Deep sea ombre dresser
I love this so much, I think it'd be neat to try out a sunset ombre.

Cut-out contrast dress
I must have this dress!

One of my favourite shows of all time. I own all ten seasons on DVD and what I do is just watch it from start to finish, over and over. But since Christmas time I've put it on hold but I've recently started up again! I'm on season two and here's a funny quote :D

[Flipping a coin to choose between "ducks" and "clowns."]
Joey: Ducks is "Heads", because ducks have heads.
Chandler: What kind of scary-ass clowns came to your birthday?

How adorable are these?!

Simple DIYs for the home :)

I've been super busy with moving, unpacking, settling in, school, visiting back home, etc. but I've been able to put up some of my decorations that I've made in the past. They are all super simple and nothing really new or groundbreaking. But I did them myself and they work great for me :)

Here we have this wonderful teapot message board! I just bought the cut out at Michael's, sectioned off where I wanted the chalk board with tape, painted the chalk board then painted the rest!

In that little bottle is lemon essential oil and water. It's my "spider-be-gone" spray. Apparently spiders don't like lemon, if they step in it they'll go away. So it won't kill them, just keeps them away :) Funny story (kinda): Last summer I was getting mosquito bites ALL OF THE TIME. Like for months, I would always have a little bump somewhere on my body from a spider! Sometime's I would have 3 or 4 bites at a time. Horrible. But then I started using this spray and no more bites! Magic.

That jar is my happy memory jar. Very simple concept: if something makes you happy, write it on a paper and put it in a jar. Doesn't even have to be a jar, could be a box, an envelope, an old mug, anything! I started this at the beginning of the year and will look at all the happy memories in December! I think it's a great way to start teaching yourself to count your blessings, to stay positive, to look on the bright side of things, and all that good stuff. For mine I painted dots on it and then with a hot glue gun wrote "Lovely moments in 2013" in cursive and while it was still wet, I sprinkled glitter on it :)

I looovveee how these magnets turned out! I took cardboard (from the packaging of tea), painted a couple coats of paint on it, wrote random silly words on it with a permanent marker, then added a coat of mod podge then glued on a magnet on the back! So simple! But so cute and practical!

For these organizing jars I just took pretty pages out of Seventeen magazine, taped the ends together to form a loop/tunnel, then stuck them in a jar! Really great for storing makeup brushes and other toiletry type items :)

I thought this was a perfect eyeliner holder. Or at least really really great considering how simple it is. I took an old can with a pretty label and added tissue paper at the bottom. It's perfect because it's pretty, and can hold all my eyeliner vertically. I always store my eyeliner that way so the liquid liner doesn't pool in the lid. It also keeps them falling over so easily! Before I had them all standing up, but then they'd all fall every time I reached for one.

And that's it for now! As you can tell (and as I said before) these are all super simple, and I bet you've seen these before. But they're all cute and super versatile!

Hope you have a good weekend!

Yessssss! After a few very crazy busy days, lots of money spent and many trips back and forth from Victoria to Vancouver, my boyfriend and I have found a cute little apartment to call our home!

The hunt for an apartment was not easy. We found one we really liked, but someone else offered more money... Another place was a scam. Another place (the place we thought we would get for sure) never even put our application through and they would never return their phone calls or emails! But finally, just this past weekend we found a perfect apartment and that same day, it was ours. It all happened so fast, but then, it had to. We were pushing it close with finding a place just 4 days before my first day of class. But we did, we made it.

Now when I say this apartment is perfect, it really is! It's so much bigger than the other places we looked at, it's less than a 10 minute walk to the mall and a good friend's place. Also close to another mall and the school. There's lots of windows and even a little balcony! There's been no problems with it being really cold, weird water pressure, appliances not working or anything like that. We are so happy here!

There is still a ton of unpacking, organizing and decorating to do. But soon enough, it'll be just right! Here a few pics of our little journey.

We took this picture right when we moved it. Check out that awesome circle window!

Packing the u-hall

Somehow we ended up with waaayyyy more forks than spoons

Unpacking. Messes everywhere.
